The Detox Diet – No Need to Starve

Detox or detoxification is the natural body process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from your body. In this process the toxic substances that you ingest through food and water and pollutants in the environment are transformed and broken-down into less harmful compounds and excreted through stools, sweat and urine.

Detox also includes those toxins which are the by products of the body through normal body function such as ammonia. A toxin is any substance that if it builds up can harm the body. In order to aid your body in this detox process, you can follow a detox diet. This diet is used on a short term basis to help your body cleanse. Detox diets are beneficial because they generally only allow organic fruits and vegetables so eliminating chemicals that you might otherwise ingest from food sources.

Food choices

A detox diet generally excludes foods like meat that take time or are hard to digest. This frees up your body energy to put into the detoxification and cleansing process. Food choices are centred on foods that provide ample amounts of vitamins, minerals, nutrients and powerful antioxidants that are needed for detox. All foods must contain a high fiber to help with the elimination of toxins by increasing the frequency of bowel movements.

Plenty of fresh juices, green smoothies, soups and broths and pure water are included to provide enough fluid to help increase the excretion of toxins by way of the urine.

The majority of toxic chemical substances that are harmful to us cling to the fat tissues in the body. It becomes their partner for survival in our system that is why fat tissues are synonymous with the increase of body toxins.

Detox for weight loss

Researchers have discovered that people who have problems controlling their weight can often loose it and keep it off once they detox chemicals. Of course they have to practise having a healthy food choices and a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain weight loss.

No need to starve

Some are very restricted and demand a lot of will power and resolve. But with the knowledge we now have about how the body detoxifies it is not necessary to starve on a detox diet. In fact long restricted diets are likely to leave you short of the very nutrients that you need for effective detox. On the other hand very short detoxes will not be effective either, There are a lot of one day miracle detox plans around and it would indeed be a miracle if they did anything.

The best detox diet is flexible enough to fit in with your current lifestyle but leads you into long term healthy food choices and a healthy way of life. Choose your detox diet wisely.
